Pondtown Farms

October 2009

Hey, what's up Southern Junior Bassmasters. It's your club reporter, Jesse. I just wanted to give you an updateon our annual camping trip to Pondtown Farms on the Eastern Shore. This is the third annual trip for me and as always, I had a blast!! I am sure the other SJBer's who attended felt the same. It's great fishing, and great fun as well.

We all landed several fish and some of us, like Carl and Eric, were able to snag a few over four pounds, Most ponds were productive, but, generally, most of us enjoyed the big natural pond. I had most of my success in the big rectangle pond that was full of grass. The pattern seemed to be a Senko, shallow diving crankbait, and a top water lure such as a buzz bait. I caught my fish using 3 inch Senko, Texas rigged, and a Mann's Baby One Minus. Other anglers were sucessful with these as well. The weather was a little tough with on and off showers throughout the second day. Yet, we still managed to have a good time.  I would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Ricketts, the owners of Pondtown Farms. As always, they were great hosts, and the brownies were a special treat. Also, thanks to our adult leader, Rick LaNore for organizing the event. I hope all who attended had a great time.

Remember that our meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at St. Mary's, Newport Catholic Church in Charlotte Hall. We have two more tournaments left for the year. Watch your email for updates. Hope to see you then.

Southern Jr. Bassmasters Club Update April, 2009

What’s up club members and other readers, it’s Jesse Colie,  club reporter for the Southern Junior Bassmasters.  I have just a little info on what we’ve been up to.

Our last two events were all about the environment.  The first was the annual tree drop in early Spring at Gilbert Run’s Wheatly Lake .  The tree drop was a great success.  I would like to start by saying thanks to the Roselles, Rick, Mike, and Danny, and Mr. Nutter, for their boats and the blocks we used to weigh down the trees.  On the day of the drop we sunk around 25 trees, all in areas that should attract fish and hopefully provide a natural habitat for them.  We had a few “floaters” that eventually went down after some extra attention but, overall, most of them went down just fine.  It was a good time and hopefully we will catch some fish off of these spots!

Our next event was the Potomac River Clean Up.  I have to say it was a great accomplishment.  Our club met at the Marshall Hall boat ramp.  We cleaned up the boat ramp area, shore line, and woods.  There were tons of generous folks there to help out.  I think we had a positive impact on the trash in that area.  I hope those who participated in this event will always remember to clean up after themselves whenever they’re in the great outdoors.

Well, I hope you are all up to date and until next time, see you later!
